If you are attending the Daytona 500, make sure you don’t miss the Budweiser Pre-Race Show featuring the Zac Brown Band live February 24th.

Grammy-award winning musicians Zac Brown Band will perform the Daytona 500 Budweiser Pre-Race Show at 12:20pm leading up to the start of “The Great American Race” at Daytona International Speedway on Sunday, Feb. 24.

All race fans that purchase a Pre-Race/Sprint FANZONE access pass for the Daytona 500 will be able to enjoy Zac Brown Band’s Daytona 500 Budweiser Pre-Race Show, as well as driver introductions, from the grass tri-oval area.

The City of Daytona’s annual Juneteenth Family Festival

The City of Daytona’s annual Juneteenth Family Festival is the place to be Saturday, June 16^th! From 11 am to 7 pm at Cypress Park and Midtown Community Center experience cultural awareness, education and a whole lot of fun! Admission is FREE! We hear a rock climbing wall is in order along with a petting zoo, pony rides, and lots of free swimming. Of course the festival would not be complete without the mouth-watering pound cake contest….. The festival will be the first chance for the community to tour the new $4.5 million Midtown Cultural and Educational Center.

When announced, a general order was read out loud that freed the quarter-million slaves residing in the state. Sea Turtle Season!

It’s that time again – Sea Turtle Season. From May 15 through October 31, the area beaches host an unusual marine visitor – the green sea turtle. These magnificent animals emerge from the surf at night to lay their eggs in nests dug into the dry sand, then return to the sea. Two months later, about a hundred baby turtles (hatchlings) emerge from each of these nests and crawl to the ocean. This amazing cycle of Mother Nature is thousands of years old.

Our government has taken several steps to protect these gentle creatures and the fragile dune area. Beach driving and parking is prohibited west of an established dune conservation zone and beachfront lighting at night is limited. The tiny hatchlings can be confused by bright lights and stray west onto busy Highway A1A. Please do your part and keep this tips in mind:

• Don’t disturb a turtle that is crawling to or from the ocean or laying eggs. Watch from a good distance.

• Avoid shining lights on the beach at night as this may frighten away nesting females and, interfere with the hatchlings ability to find the sea.

• Avoid walking or cycling in neting areas.

• Do not disturb markers or protective screening over turtle nests. These nests are being studied and protected.

• Don’t litter. Cigarette butts, fishing line and other trash can harm the animals and birds along the beach.

Daytona Beach Kennel Club & Poker Room will host a stop on the nationally-televised seventh season of Heartland Poker Tour. HPT will film two episodes of the poker show at a tournament open to the public September 30-October 9, 2011. Qualifying rounds start September 30 for those who hope to win their way into the Main Event. Players may also buy directly into the main event on October 8, with play continuing until the field is reduced to six.
